trauma introduction
we live in a time of immense personal and collective trauma, some of which we may not even be aware of. here, we start by exploring what trauma is and the biology underpinning our stress responses. we also learn to use breath as a means of self-regulating our reactions.
mindfulness in trauma work
we now delve more deeply into trauma and learn to recognize and differntiate between PTSD, associated with traumatic incidents, and complex PTSD, associated with chronic trauma and often incurred during our childhood. we then look at how to use mindfulness to self-regulate and increase resillience when we are triggered.
attachment theory
in this program, we turn our attention to attachment theory. we look at how our meaning-making models in adulthood are informed by internalized feedback stemming from the relationships we had with our primary caretakers during early childhood. we describe five archetypes of the traumatized person as identified in contemporary research, and are invited to begin the process of healing by taking responsibility for our own reparenting.
a safe space
we reflect on what living with trauma feels like and then turn our attention to some of the practices we can use to re-experience the sense of safety that was lost during trauma. we return to mindfulness to create a safe space, ground and soothe ourselves.
grieving
here we look at the signs of complex-PTSD in terms of what is lost during the trauma. allowing ourselves to grieve this loss is necessary for healing. we then look closely at the stages of grief and steps we can take to support us in our healing journey.
reparenting
in this program we explore how to connect, communicate with and nurture our inner child. we discuss doing trauma-work and moving through the stages of changing maladaptive behavior as outlined by the transtheoretical change model. finally we look at working with shame and connecting with others.
