why meditate, and how
we begin this topic by proposing two reasons for the importance of meditation. first, the Buddhist perspective and then the perspective of Integral meditation. we then look more deeply into the method of meditation and how meditation is a process of befriending ourselves.
cultivating attention
we turn our attention to the two aspects of mind being trained during meditation: stability and clarity. we then explore the four foundations of mindfulness and incorporating each into awareness. finally, we describe progression, or stages, in meditative practice.
the difficulties and their remedies
as our awareness increases, thought and feeling can become overwhelming. we look at how to work with our thoughts, reactive emotions, and some of the difficulties we will encounter along the path of meditation.
into stillness
in stillness, or the absence of thought, interpretation, and identification, we find our true identity, or Being. in this program we explore this stillness, "i-am"ness, and the nature Being as empty, translucent, and always already present.
cultivating insight
insight for the Buddhist practitioner means distinguishing thought from direct experience. for the insight practices we receive pointing out instructions to perceive the nature of mind directly. in this program we focus on four of these practices.
