- basic fear: being helpless and incapable with no energy
- basic desire: to be capable, knowing, and competent.

- relate to others primarily through being inventive and exploratory
- feel that they are a good person when they’ve mastered something fully
- desire: to master something and gain confidence
- strategy: reinforce self-image through mastery, knowledge, and innovation.
