archetypes

there are 27 tritypes — patterns in which the different intelligences work together. these patterns are helpful for understanding what kind of work you would be happy in, or what role — as described by the archetype — you see yourself fulfilling, wherever you are.

each tritype has three forms, depending on the primary intelligence or type. the first number in the tritype indicates the primary type. for example, if you have the tritype 127, type one is your primary type, and type one energy will dominate. similarly, the same tritype presented as 271 indicates that two is the dominant type, and type 7 energy will dominate in a person with tritype 712.

the following descriptors take the primary type into account. for each tritype, read the first paragraph, and then, supplement this information with the paragraph pertaining to your leading type.

tritype 125, 251, 512

the Mentor archetype

the Mentor is focused on helping others through being informative and of service. this is a scholarly archetype: caring, but practical and knowledgeable. they have high expectations of themselves and others, and others may feel pushed by this. their life mission is to manifest ideals that help people in need, and they are happiest when able to help others improve themselves. their blind spot is an over-focus on procedure or protocol that gets in the way of being of true service to others. in this blind spot they may be highly demanding and exacting as they feel they understand the world and how things “should” be. their growth edge is to learn that the world is right as it is, and that people can only change when they’re ready.

145 — primary type is 1

146 — primary type is 1

most poised and prudent, almost as though consulting with an inner critic to have each word screened before it is said • when conversing with them there is always a third party involved — their own inner judge — so that they almost seem to be standing at attention. this makes them picky about minutiae in most (if not all) areas of life • easily feel let down by an imperfect world.

147 — primary type is 1

strong expectations of themselves and others around the correct way • less interior feeling-connection • value and rule driven • difficulty in finding a balance between their need for freedom, and their need for rules.

471 — primary type is 4

tritype 258, 582, 825

the Strategist archetype

the Strategist is typically caring, knowledgeable and protective. they want to be helpful, wise, and straightforward. they are intellectual and emotional ambiverts, in the sense that they have aspects that will present as extraverted and other aspects that will appear to be introverted. this can be confusing for others and might present as someone who wants to be caring and helpful, but at times feels over-extended and suddenly withdraws. as the name of the archetype suggests, they instinctively analyze and understand the strategic principles underlying processes and situations and are happiest when in positions of leadership. their life mission is to help, inform and protect others. however, they can become overidentified with their opinions and then vacillate between engaging and withdrawn. withdrawing when they feel they do not have the internal resources to meet what, in their assessment and opinion, is required for a situation. this hot/cold quality makes them appear intense, intimidating, and unpredictable.

258 — primary type is 2

most directly helpful and engaging of the three • may also be typically unaware of their own needs in a situation and appear invulnerable • deeper emphasis on service and doing the background work.

582 — primary type is 5

the strong intellectual capacity of the type five leads to very powerful strategic capacity, which in less mature individuals may lead to controlling behavior • in the more mature form, this subtype is quite capable of “master-minding” complex processes.

825 — primary type is 8

when the type 8 is the leading energy, the person may have a strong need to be in control and may tend to dominate situations • a deep fear of vulnerability may contribute strongly to a hot/cold style of engagement.

268 — primary type is 2

the 378 is the most assertive and outward focused of the tritypes — brimming with ambition and innovation. they want to be efficient, happy, and straightforward. they are dynamic go-getters, focused on the goal. through the lens of ambition, they see the big picture, a positive future, and have the will to make it happen. seeking success, obstacles are experienced as competitive challenges. their life mission is to see what is possible and find the ways in which to manifest their dreams. as the name of their archetype suggests, Movers and Shakers are happiest when in a position of power to manifest their vision and make things happen. their blind spot is that they can be so ambitious, expeditious, assertive, and results oriented that they miss their impact on others and the deeper meaning and significance of why they are doing what they are doing. their growth edge then is to slow down and become the person who can reflect with another, also understanding their feelings. this can only happen when they’re willing to connect with their own painful feelings.

378 — primary type is 3

most driven and outcome oriented of the subtypes • lack authenticity when immature • strongly focused on achievement • big view • powerful networkers.

tritype 379, 793, 937

the Ambassador archetype

the Ambassador likes people and is outgoing, even if a bit shy. they are easygoing and seek comfort but strive for success and a feeling of personal importance. they are identified with what they do and achieve, but are soft, gentle, and kind. their life mission is to find compassionate and effective ways to create change and bridge differences. true ambassadors of good will, they are happiest when they can help others become harmonious, build rapport, and develop their potential. they are extremely uncomfortable with negativity in relationships. their blind spot is to be so focused on what is positive that they miss the wisdom that comes from experiencing and understanding negative emotions, and they end up creating conflict by avoiding it. their growing edge is to recognize that their tendency to keep the peace at all costs, and be what others want them to be to feel successful, keeps them from knowing themselves.

the Scholar archetype

458s are somewhat introverted, intelligent, headstrong, and detached. they are hyper introspective, also strategic, and emotionally astute problem solvers. intuitive, knowledgeable, and direct, they can also be the most intense personality, especially when with an SX instinct. they crave knowing what makes people tick and build astute mental “maps” of what makes people do what they do. due to the intensity of each of the three intelligences, this tends to be the darkest (most turbulent) of the tritypes, particularly when type four or type five is in charge. there may be a propensity toward the grotesque, anatomical or intensely esoteric. The Scholar’s, their life mission is to disseminate found information. their blind spot is that they can be prone to arrogance and miss or reduce new information that does not fit exactly into their mental maps. they can become so fixed in their worldview or ideas, particularly about people, that they do not take in new information. this is the most cynical tritype, and their tendency to be overly opinionated can turn people off, dismissing their wisdom. their growth edge then, is learning to allow others’ their view. realizing that there are many aspects of life which can be enjoyed without the need for intensity.

458 — primary type is 4

intensely original, with a passion to explore and find the hidden meaning of systems • a true intellectual, with strong opinions about their feelings and thoughts but less reactivity than the other subtypes • most tough-minded and opinionated type four.

584 — primary type is 5

tritype 459, 594, 945

the Contemplative archetype

intuitive, knowledgeable, and accepting, the 459 wants to be original, wise, and peaceful. the most introspective, withdrawn, and reclusive of the tritypes, they are highly self-aware and reflective, shy, reserved, and self-conscious. they need regular time for reflection, quiet, and simply being with their thoughts and emotions. easily flooded with emotion, it is difficult for them to voice their feelings and ideas to others. their life mission is to delve deeply into the mysteries of life and share their insights with others. Contemplatives are happiest when they can write about and discuss their discoveries. making sense of the world for them is a never-ending quest. their blind spot is being so focused on their inner world that they become inhibited and appear indifferent to others. their growing edge is to recognize that their need to pull away into a private world of their making to ponder, keeps them from engaging with others.

459 — primary type is 4

most creative and emotional of the tritype • anger more directly expressed • can be emotionally intense • less inhibited when emotionally upset • deeply reflective and empathic.

594 — primary type is 5

tritype 468, 684, 846

the Truth-Teller archetype

Truth-Tellers see it as their duty to call out the “truth” as they see it and warn people of the potential downfalls and pitfalls in the emotional and mental world. this is a strongly reactive triad and as such, 468s can be hyper-reactive. they tend to feel an acute sense of disappointment because their acuity at seeing the potential problems or pitfalls ahead of situations is not always shared, and their reactivity and emotionality therefore misunderstood. they tend to be intuitive, inquisitive, and direct. highly sensitive, they track inconsistencies — like the “canary in the coal mine”, calling out unspoken agendas, motives, and emotions. they are also very intense and can at times be rebellious and emotionally reactive. their life mission is to identify what is insincere or not what it appears to be, and alert others of potential hazards. whistleblowers, they are happiest when in a position to help others from being misled. however, their blind spot is that they can be so focused on what can go wrong that they miss how controlling they become as a result, and their impact on others. their growth edge is therefore to learn what is truly important and meaningful to others, rather than forcing their view.

468 — primary type is 4

where the 4 is typically quite shy, in this triad they may be very intense and reactive, quick to speak their mind • tend to be impulsive and emotional, often confronting before thinking.

684 — primary type is 6

typically, counter-phobic and therefore aggressive • underneath the aggression may be a high level of anxiety.

846 — primary type is 8

one of the most confrontational tritypes, taking charge and seeking solutions • tend to initiate conflict and take offense very easily • aggression combined with tenacity or persistence may make them relentless in their pursuit.

tritype 469, 694, 946

the Seeker archetype

Seekers are intuitive, inquisitive, and accepting, and want to be original, certain, and peaceful. they are highly sensitive and can experience intense feelings of self-doubt and uncertainty. all three intelligences making up this tritype have a tendency towards self-doubt, so 469s need multiple sources of confirmation. they want to be individualistic but can fear being separate from others. their life mission is to raise the questions pertaining to the mysteries of life and share their findings with others. Seekers are happiest they feel they can answer the question of who they are. what begins as doubt ultimately brings a great deal of knowledge that can lead to greater understanding. their growth edge is to be more cognizant of “what is”, rather than their interpretation through feelings, where fear may be so prominent that it leads to total indecision or being misled or duped.

469 — primary type is 4

the dominant type four energy adds to the depth of anxiety • can feel flooded and therefore overwhelmed with emotions like grief • fear of feeling overcome increases anxiety • may be the most aloof of the three subtypes • more dutiful, but with a heavier heart, they fear can't make enough of a difference.

649 — primary type is 6

type four and nine energies intensify the type six’s doubtful nature, which may lead to feelings of deep anxiety • push-pull reaction pattern with authority in staving off anxiety.

946 — primary type is 9

very gentle unless threatened • can be very much out of touch with their intuition and struggle with doubt and inaction • less inclined to seek confirmation from others than the other subtypes, just avoiding conflict and hoping things resolve themselves.

tritype 478, 784, 847

the Messenger archetype

Messengers are freedom loving, cutting edge, innovative, creative, and non-conformist. focused on implementing and manifesting their vision, they tend to be intuitive, straightforward, and self-possessed. they are able to track both their internal and external worlds and often present as unconventional, passionate masters of solutions. outwardly, they may be confident but inwardly emotionally vulnerable. their life mission is to find truth and communicate/live their findings. they are happiest when they can use creativity to find compassionate ways of understanding themselves and empowering others. their blind spot is to be so focused on their opinions, insights, or what is new and profound that their freedom-seeking nature can come across as arrogant, resistant, and/or uncooperative. their task then is to reveal more of their own interior and allow themselves to be more vulnerable, so they are more connected to feelings, in themselves and the other.

478 — primary type is 4

with type four as the leading type, innovation and creativity is emphasized • powerful intuition and originality, but also the subtype that is most under the influence of their emotions, heightening moodiness and intensity.

784 — primary type is 7

often a very flamboyant type • feel they have a message to impart • want the freedom to explore themselves and their external worlds.

847 — primary type is 8

with type eight in charge, this subtype may be more playful and the least political of the tritypes • the more creative, original, and non-conforming type eights • may also be moody, intense, and eccentric.

tritype 479, 794, 947

the Gentle Spirit archetype

in females this tritype often presents as ethereal, and as strong trickster energy in males. there is a need to remain positive while still searching for meaning. they see themselves as peaceful and need positive relating, but often expect negativity. they are extremely uncomfortable with negativity and like to inspire people toward happiness through expressing their creativity in a peaceful non-intrusive way. in this way they often display a healing presence whether they intend so or not. their life mission is to identify what is truly meaningful in life and help people transform negative feelings into positive change. they feel happiest when creative expression reconnects them with their inner self and facilitates change. their blind spot is an attraction to magical thinking, as well as a tendency to miss opportunities to speak their truth, so they find themselves glossing over negative feeling states in favor of what’s more positive or comfortable. they tend not to be aware of the ways in which they evade depression and sadness through magical thinking. their growing edge therefore is to speak their truth, even if it will create conflict with others. constantly denying the truth of the moment leads to being distant from themselves.

479 — primary type is 4

most emotional and empathic of this tritype • more past oriented than the 794, who is future oriented, and therefore more prone to melancholy, based on “what is missing” • can become lost in fantasy and own interior world.

947 — primary type is 9

most intuitive and innovative of this tritype • very identified with the defense of optimism — tend to hide all painful feelings and pessimism for fear of rejection • see wonder in beauty • often idealistic in their relations with others • often see themselves as type fours as they see life as bittersweet like the type four, but not with the same intensity as the type four • want depth and beauty, but will put peace and tranquility first • pine in a quiet, gentle manner • lack voltage, and struggle with naming their preferences in the face of adversity.
